Whats new:

Made a new map file for four players.

Bug Fixes:

Fixed a bug that caused fog of war to cover whole map if it was disabled in a match.

Known issues:

It happened a few times that the game had synchronisation errors at random moments.

A few times during a multiplayer match a message to end player's turn got lost causing all players to wait for the other to end his turn.

When setting up multiplayer match, choosing a color or selecting map file causes communication delay error. Just press "Wait" if it happens.

Specific features in need of testing:

Multiplayer matches. I would like to ask for special attention to possible synchronisation errors and "end turn" bug.
If one of those happen, please take note of the circumstances (what was done at that moment, additional effects, etc.).

After another long delay here's the new alpha version.
Nothing new added. Only bug fixes.
Those fixes were pretty important though as the bugs caused the game to not work in multiplayer (yet again).
I did some testing before this release and fixed all problems that shown up.
As a result I believe this version to be rather stable and you should have no problems playing it online.

I did however had some issues with multiplayer connection later during a match.
I'm not sure yet what is the problem. I'll be looking into that matter and I would greatly appreciate any help with finding the cause.
More information in the download thread (linked below).
Windows 7 addresses the growing desire for application control solutions in the enterprise with the introduction of AppLocker: a simple and flexible mechanism that allows administrators to specify exactly what is allowed to run in their desktop environment. As a result, AppLocker provides not only security protections, but also operational and compliance benefits by:

* Keeping unlicensed software from running in your desktop environment

* Preventing vulnerable, unauthorized applications from running in your desktop environment, including malware

* Stopping users from running applications that needlessly consume network bandwidth or otherwise impact the enterprise computing environment

* Preventing users from running applications that destabilize their desktop environment and increase helpdesk support costs

* Easing enterprise software deployments and maintenance through effective desktop configuration management

* Allow users to install and run approved applications and software updates based upon their business needs

* Helping ensure your desktop environment is in compliance with corporate policies and industry regulations such as PCI DSS, Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, Basel II, and others

After the ages long delay I finally released the new version of "Blue Sun".
Whole multiplayer mechanism has been replaced.
It should now be much easier to get a game session across the internet going.

Unfortunately I havent done much more than that in this update.
There is no added content but bug fixes, small improvements and another units rebalancing.
Still this version may be a huge step forward with "Blue Sun" finally getting a working multiplayer and proper unit balancing (previous one had some bad mistakes), thus becoming "practically" playable.

Blue Sun Alpha v.0.184
( As you can see from the version number I did worked quite a lot on this. Theres a jump from v.0.142 to v.0.184. )

To make it easier to play "Blue Sun" multiplayer I have prepared Hamachi network meant for testing the game.
Join it here if you are interested.

One more good news is that I prepared tutorials that will teach the basics of playing "Blue Sun".
I hope they will help as some people complained that the game seems too difficult.

Some units recover their Health Points (HP), Ammo Units (AU), Energy Units (EU) or even Resource Units (RU) or Expirience Points (EP), at the beggining of each turn.

Even if a unit recovers Health Points (HP) each round, it will never recover back its number of ships.
Unit will not recover more HP than the maximum HP of the number of ships left.
Example: Unit having 5 ships left out of 10 will not recover more than up to half of its HP bar.

Fighter class units have no ammunition (AU) recovery.
Their ammo supply must be refilled by bigger support units, e.g. a Carrier.

Some units like Transporter or Carrier can dock fighters inside.
You can use this to carry them around keeping them safe or you can surprise your enemy suddenly launching them.

Having enemy unit in range of your advanced detection field lets you view detailed information about that unit.
To collect resources you will need two classes of ships: Resource Collectors and Transporters.

Resource Collectors can mine RU's from asteroids using "Mine Resources" action. Collectors must be placed next to the asteroid to mine it.
When you click "Mine Resources" action, red Vectors will appear on every adjacent asteroid with a number telling how many RU's you can mine from that place.
Click a Vector to mine the resources.
Mining asteroids costs Collector its Action Points (AP).
Collector can only mine as many RU's as many AP it has.

When a Collector mines RU's, his RU bar fills up. This bar indicates how many RU's the selected unit is carrying.
Once the RU's are loaded into the Collector, it can transfer them to the Transporter using "Transfer Resources" action.
A pop-up window will appear asking you to enter the amount of RU's that you wish to transfer.
Just like mining, transfering RU's costs Action Points.
You won't be able to transfer resources if your unit is out of AP.

When you have your Transporter loaded with RU's you can send it on the way to factory or any other place where the RU's will be needed.
Transporter can transfer RU's to other units just like the Collector.

Of course Resource Collectors could transport RU's as well but they are way too slow, what makes them too inefficient at transporting.
You can however use them to transport RU's directly to a factory or a production capable ship that is close.

Getting the game running over internet

This is a tutorial showing you how to play "Blue Sun" over the internet.

1. Forwarding ports.

A player hosting a game over the internet who uses firewall or a router, must unlock a single port to let other players connect to him.
You dont have to do this to play on a local network (LAN) or if you are not using firewall/router.

Please keep in mind you are forwarding the ports on your own risk.
If you are not sure what you are doing please look around the internet and learn more about port forwarding first.

I will not explain how to forward ports here because it depends on the hardware and software you are using.
I can only direct you to this site. It explains how to forward your ports.
You must select there, the router you are using and then a program which you want to unlock ports for.
You wont find "Blue Sun" on the list with programs but you can choose something else (e.g. "Homeworld Cataclysm").
The guide will tell you to unlock specific ports for the program you chose. Instead of the TCP port 24472 used by "Blue Sun".
This port can be changed to any other in "settings.ini" file in game's folder.

2. Hosting a game session.

Run "Blue Sun" and in the main menu pick the "Multiplayer" option. Then click "Host Game Session".
A window will appear letting you enter your player name, session name, and optionally a password.

If you are wishing to play over the internet you must check your IP address.
You can do it for example here. Tell your IP address to the person youd like to play with.
If you are playing over a local network (LAN) then you dont need to check your IP.

3. Joining a game session.

The person who wishes to join the hosted game session must launch his/her game.
When the menu appears click "Multiplayer" button and then "Join Game Session". In the window that appears you must enter the IP address of the hosting computer.
If you are playing over a local network (LAN) then you dont have to enter any IP. Just leave the text field empty and click "Continue". If that wont work try entering hosting computer's LAN IP.

If all goes well you should see the game session details and a question if you want to join it.
Next you will have to enter your player's name.
If the game host chose a session password you will also be asked to enter it.
Finally you should see a game setting menu. Then host can then set up the game and start the match.

Problems

It may be difficult to host game sessions from behind some routers or firewalls.
There can be also many other difficulties that won't let a player host a game session which others could join.

If you wish you can use "Blue Sun's" Hamachi network to host game sessions.
It may make you avoid some of the problems.
